Simple moments
Chris came up to me a few moments ago and had his lava lamp in hand. This is a pretty big symbolic moment for him. A few weeks ago we where talking about the key moments we have had since we started this endeavor. These moments may be obvious or maybe something small and simple but they still leave a lasting impression.
One good example was breaking ground. Going over to his place on that semi-soggy April day made the fact that we where going to build this thing a reality in my head. It was already a reality for Chris since he was dealing with the contractors and architects, but for me this is when it really sank in.
Another big moment was seeing the frame up. From dirt to building you could see the actually structural dimensions for the first time. It gave me a feeling of height and size of the place and I could actually walk around inside it. I was pretty shocked at how much bigger it was then I thought it would be.
A huge one for Chris, and it was cool for me but I wasn’t there for the actual hand off, was the key to the front door. This was critical. We now had a self-contained building with a roof, walls, insulation, wires and now a fully functional front door.
There was that moment of painting outside and realizing the work radio was playing from the inside. I walked into the studio and Chris had wired a plug to one of the exposed wires. The radio was being powered by a line I had run. That was huge for me.
There are a lot of other moments, painting the outside, painting the inside, setting up the moog and blaring a few synth tones on the Mackies. For Chris, the lava lamp is the big one. This is it. He told me back when this all started that the moment he takes the lamp home is the moment that the studio is done.
Well he is taking it home and setting it up.
